Steve has been a pioneer, leading the charge for life cycle carbon calculation in construction since the 1990s!  Steve got involved with estimating software in 1986, and it wasn’t long before he decided that more needed to be done.  Steve started a project to develop an estimating solution that went beyond cost, by addressing carbon and life cycle calculation in 1996, but the industry wasn’t ready. In 2010, frustrated by the pace of change, Steve went out on his own.

Steve’s pioneering ventures aren’t solely focused on estimating, in 2016, the UK BIM Alliance was founded, and Steve was one of the original members. 

In 2019, still with no building regulations, or government mandates in place to calculate carbon, Steve decided it had been long enough and kick-started the carbon revolution himself. He joined with other leaders to start Zero Construct to drive awareness in the industry, becoming a founding sponsor, and at the same time started rounding up investors to develop Sterling. It was to be a new frontier for the industry, but not for Steve, it was a solution he had been pushing to create for nearly 30 years.

After less than 2 years of development there was a soft product launch and clients working with a prototype version of Sterling at the end of 2020. Since then, the solution has only grown, offering fully integrated cost and carbon estimating, BIM integration, 2D & 3D Take-off, a Package Management solution bringing supply chain into Sterling itself, and a massive database of over 8,000 costed items, and over 21,000 resources with detailed, accurate carbon values. Steve is not finished there, with an extensive roadmap of features to further expand the solution and bring everything a commercial team member could possibly want into one, single, trailblazing solution.
