A Director in the charitable sectors for over 20 years. Shirley’s passion is a belief in people, that everyone should have the opportunity to thrive and lead fulfilling lives, with a firm believe that people can change and should be given the opportunity to do so.
Shirley spent the last 4 years as National Director for Cultural Transformation and Practice for Change Grow Live, a national healthcare charity, employing c6000 staff. Her work focussed on creating conditions for people to be their best selves in the workplace, in order to make even more of a difference together. She developed and ran leadership programmes for trustees, senior executives and directors through to first line managers, as well as bespoke programmes for teams in different stages of development – new, struggling, managing change. Alongside this she developed a series of packages on equality and inclusivity, just cultures in the workplace and wellbeing.
Shirley has come back full circle to her roots in education and employment, and since now runs Change Grow Live’s independent subsidiary charity, Bounce Back. Her work in secondary education, witnessing the level of disadvantage some young people faced, inspired to move into the charitable sector, leading her to become a Director for Employment Services, Director for Business Development and more recently Director for Cultural Transformation and Practice.
Bounce Back work inside London prisons and out in the community, and over the last decade they have helped over 8,000 individuals improve their life choices through our portfolio of diversion, education, training and employment services. Construction has and continues to be a significant part of what they do, with training hubs in 4 prisons as well as the community, and plans to expand. They co-design courses with employers to provide qualifications in a range of trade-based skills, such as painting and decorating, dry-lining and scaffolding, with jobs waiting on release.
Shirley has held trustee positions for Citizens Advice Bureau and Whole in my Bucket, where she now acts as a co-opted advisor. She also provides mentoring and coaching to women looking to get into and progress in leadership.
