John joined the BSR in July 2025 from MHCLG, where he spent four years leading policy work on changes to the Building Regulations and implementing the HRB Building Control regime. His early career was as an engineer in the Royal Navy, where he held various roles related to IT, logistics, and procurement as well as several overseas deployments. After leaving the navy, John transitioned into the construction sector with a focus on energy efficiency and building services, working in several consultancies on the design and project management of domestic refurbishment and new builds. He then worked at the Passivhaus Trust, a role which inspired him to build his own Passivhaus home. In addition to his professional experience, John has served in several volunteer capacities, including Town Councillor and founder of a Community Land Trust.
