Jennie Armstrong
Founder,
Construction Health and Wellbeing Ltd
The construction industry's historical lack of focus on Health and Wellbeing (H&W) has resulted in concerning statistics, with workers facing disproportionate risks to their physical and mental health. Tragically, they are 3-4 times more likely to complete suicide and 100 times more likely to die from work-related health issues as opposed to fatal safety accidents. Additionally, the high numbers of debilitating conditions like occupational deafness and musculoskeletal disorders, highlights the urgent need for change. Jennie Armstrong, the founder of Construction H&W Ltd and Head of Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing at Tideway is revolutionising the sector with a visionary approach towards H&W. Through her leadership and innovative methodologies, she is inspiring a healthier and happier future for all involved, and is helping the industry achieve greater parity with safety. This has been evidenced by leading Tideway in achieving multiple awards for H&W. Drawing upon her nursing background and innovative 5-step framework, Jennie empowers projects and contractors to adopt strategic, evidence-based H&W programs. Her "done with you" coaching style, rather than traditional consultancy, focuses on upskilling individuals and encouraging everyone to apply a H&W lens on all their daily practices. Jennie's impact extends beyond her professional roles; she serves as a trustee for the British Safety Council and has led various industry groups, including Breathe Freely for the British Occupational Hygiene Society and the Health in Construction Leadership Group. Her dedication to shaping industry-wide change has been evident through Tideway's accolades and evolving business practices. In recognising Jennie Armstrong as a Pioneer in the construction industry, we celebrate a remarkable individual whose influence extends far beyond the projects she undertakes. Her commitment to shaping a healthier and happier future for the industry serves as an inspiration to us all, embodying the very spirit of the UKCW’s Role Models campaign.
