Ian Lumsden is Arup’s Digital Services Group Leader for the UK, Middle East, India, and Africa. He leads a team of over 200 digital specialists delivering a broad spectrum of services, including Digital Advisory, Data & AI, Geospatial, Technology and Digital Solutions.
With 30 years of experience in the built environment, Ian brings deep technical expertise and leadership in multi-disciplinary design and delivery of complex building and infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. His advisory work is grounded in this extensive background, enabling him to bridge strategic digital thinking with practical implementation.
In recent years, Ian has focused his digital and technical leadership on advancing sustainable development across Arup’s global portfolio. He has played a key role in shaping the firm’s digital strategy around climate action, biodiversity net gain, and decarbonisation. Notably, Ian led Arup’s global Whole Life Carbon Digital initiative, which included the development of “Zero” , Arup’s carbon data collection platform designed to support low-carbon decision-making.
