Built-In Accountability: How Data, Traceability and Digital Innovation are Making Construction Truly Sustainable

30 Sept 2026
Digitalisation & AI Stage
Digitalisation & AI Stage

Sustainability claims in construction are easy to make - but can you prove them? This panel brings together experts from across the built environment to explore how digital tools, smarter data, and circular thinking are moving the industry from aspiration to accountability.

Chaired by the BRE's Mike Tofton, this session will discuss what a genuinely traceable, circular construction process looks like in practice: From the specification of sustainable materials, to GS1-standard barcoding that traces materials from factory to demolition and the design intent that sets the sustainability agenda from day one - and the BIM and AI tools that stitch it all together and more importantly how they are used.

Expect a frank conversation about where the data gaps still lie, what Building Safety requirements are driving, and how AI is beginning to connect the dots across the entire asset lifecycle.

Speakers
Ms Jenny Wallace., Managing Director - Mesh
Mr Mike Tofton, BIM & Digital Construction Lead - BRE
Ms Rachel Heaton, Construction Engagement Manager - GS1 UK
