Tanya Cooper is Managing Director of the NFRC Competent Person Scheme (CPS), leading the Scheme through a period of significant regulatory change and transformation across the construction industry. Having joined NFRC in 2016 from a background in business administration and finance, she was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2019, where she helped align NFRC’s operations with its wider strategic objectives, before being appointed Managing Director of CPS in 2020.
Since taking leadership of the Competent Person Scheme, Tanya has overseen its transition to an independent organisation and driven its strategic development, growth and industry profile. Drawing on her experience in governance, operations, regulatory compliance and strategic leadership, she is now navigating CPS through an increasingly complex building safety and regulatory landscape, ensuring the Scheme continues to evolve in response to changing expectations around competence, compliance and consumer protection.
A key focus of Tanya’s leadership is the digital transformation of CPS and the development of practical solutions that support contractors in understanding and demonstrating compliance with new regulatory requirements. This includes advancing work around Mandatory Technical Competencies and strengthening competency standards, while making compliance more accessible and manageable for contractors. Through this work, Tanya is committed to raising professional standards, improving confidence in the roofing industry and its image, supporting responsible contractors, and ensuring that robust competence and compliance ultimately deliver greater protection and reassurance for consumers.
