Rainbow unicorns, flying pigs and the Golden Thread of Information

06 Oct 2020
Digital Construction Hub
Much talked about (and subsequently over-hyped), the ‘Golden Thread’ is the nirvana state for connected construction information, for integrated design and supply teams and for clients with their needs of sophisticated asset management and legal compliance. It is talked of as the global panacea for the ails of the construction industry, the asset management needs of the building owner and the data records for design teams, contractors and manufacturers. The reality is more mundane but also much more useful and very achievable.
Far from being a mythical solution to a real world problem, Richard will take you through the background to the Golden Thread, the regulatory framework in the Building Safety Bill, and the strategies for developing, acquiring and maintaining the data through the design, construction and operational lifecycle. He will demonstrate how the new statutory roles of Clients, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor can use tools and systems that are already in the industry, and will use real world examples to demonstrate how clients, the design team, contractors and manufacturers can deliver data compliance, control and connectivity.
