The built environment is struggling with major challenges yet seems unable to overcome traditional responses and move towards new thinking. What can we do about that?

This was the topic for an exclusive round table event in March, hosted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s Plain Language Guide and IBM.

Sixty invited senior business leaders from across the sector spent the day grappling with the three key challenges of our age:

1. Digital Transformation and Technology
2. Transparency, Integrity and Building Safety, and
3. Sustainability, Circularity and Net Zero.

The participants represented industry voices that often are not heard above the usual noise, and the event was heavily interactive, punctuated by short provocative talks from BEIS, IBM and Audi and safety expert Gill Kernick.
