Enabling AI Applications in Construction

03 May 2022
Digital Construction Hub
Construction projects are vast and complex, with multi-layered supply chains. More and more projects are moving to Modern Methods of Construction, and the sustainability of the build environment is increasingly in question. Enabling all these shifts, to a more efficient, safer, and more sustainable industry requires powerful digital tools to understand productivity gaps and opportunities for cost and carbon reduction without compromising the standards to which we build. AI systems can be core part of this toolset, but machines need data they can understand, and creating standardised, labelled, structured sets of data is where there is a gaping hole in the digitisation of construction. This was part of the dream of BIM, but has never quite been fulfilled. This talk will cover the obstacles to digitisation and AI in construction, some of the opportunities for AI-based applications, and what we can do about it all.
