Description

Exploring creating inspirational education environments in natural settings. The knowledge used from our work with the Eden Project for the Rainforest Canopy Walkway, Invisible Worlds Project and Eden Hotel has informed much of our education work. This includes using sustainable building techniques and natural materials including softwood, galvanised steel and other sustainable materials linked to a verdant natural setting. The session will explore how this can create education spaces that enhance learning, looking at our work with Eden as well as Cranleigh School, The Scout Association and York St John University.

Key points covered will include:

- Meeting tight program requirements of the academic year with pre fabricated timber construction.

- Improving internal environments and building performance through sustainable and natural building techniques.

- How linking with the natural world can include education outcomes.

Objectives:

  • To understand how a building is constructed, through its materials and setting, and how this can affect the outcome of a student’s learning
  • To better understand pre fabricated construction in tight spaces
  • To better understand internal environments and building performance through sustainable and natural building techniques.
  • Can we construct schools to create spaces that will enhance learning? How?
