The UK has a reputation for being a wet, rainy country. However, the perception of a water-rich nation, immune from future water shortages, is very different to the reality that we are facing. Demonstrating that flood prevention and drought mitigation can be addressed with a single, smart-enabled integrated water management system, Neil will review data captured from multiple dual rainwater harvesting and stormwater attenuation schemes in operation around the UK across a broad spectrum of installation types. He will also provide key insights into water conservation initiatives including Barratt Developments’ carbon- and water- neutral ‘Z House’ in Salford, Manchester. Learnings from these projects have led to the development by SDS of a low-cost, solar-powered rainwater reuse device with the capacity to reduce each and every household’s mains water consumption by up to 25%. Attendees at this session will be amongst the very first to find out the details of this exciting new product development. Neil will also present the key conclusions drawn from multiple pioneering pilot programmes, undertaken by SDS on behalf of UK Water Companies, and discuss how these learnings can best be applied to support the UK’s resilience against the pressures on water that our changing climate and rising population are already having.
