The Virtual Mockup: how to build faster, cheaper and more accurately
It is very common on prestigious residential projects to produce physical mockups ahead of the final build, as they are valuable to the project team to resolve any issues, in isolation to the build. Physical mockups are expensive and time-consuming to produce – mockups are typically built and re-built over again until construction is coordinated and allows the contractor to ‘test’ the installation of selected products/ systems, and the client/design team to inspect the build quality. What if the majority of these issues could be caught in a digital prototype, faster cheaper, more accurately?
Using specific skillsets within the multidisciplinary team at One, the Virtual Mockup was conceived and implemented, which allows the potential of BIM to be further exploited to drive up quality, reduce errors and wastage, and better plan sequencing and logistics to improve safety.
