Of the Gold Award winners, eight shortlisted companies received the ‘Most Considerate Company Runner-up’ title and one supplier received the ‘Most Considerate Supplier Runner-up’ title.
All award winners were recognised for their outstanding performance against the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice with assessments carried out between 1 August 2017 and 31 July 2018.
Established in 2002, Optik Leisure is an interior refurbishment company based in Stone, Staffordshire, comprising just two full-time employees. Despite being a very small company, it projects an exemplary public image and positive enduring community legacy. Considerate efforts included the funding of two occupational nurses specialising in prostate cancer screening which resulted in 300 local men being tested.
Based in Chingford, east London, Impact Roofing and Building is a subcontractor specialising in roofing repairs and replacements. In just its second year of registration with the Scheme, this company has spared no effort in addressing areas for development, taking every opportunity possible to raise compliance levels. The workforce is presented in clean, branded PPE, while immaculate vehicles promote the company website and values, and operatives make every effort to promote a positive image of construction by using #loveconstruction on social media.
London-based Thomann-Hanry is an exterior building, cleaning and restoration company. As well as projecting a superb image, the company has developed a system of working which minimises the impact of building and cleaning works in busy or strategic locations, allowing the public to go unhindered about their daily business. The company’s impressive work procedures create zero levels of pollution, with 100% recycling and reuse of materials.
Munnelly Support Services, headquartered in Harrow, specialises in logistics management for main contractors on capital projects throughout the UK. This company’s “outstanding appearance” is maintained through its robust working procedures and systems, working in close collaboration with the main contractor. As well as being a CLOCS Champion, the company has exceptional systems in place to care for the safety of the public, visitors and the workforce. All traffic marshals receive additional training as first points of contact and act as site ambassadors.
Norris is a waste management services specialist based in Kent and Greenwich. Norris has been registered with the Scheme for almost eight years and has consistently achieved the highest level Scheme awards year-on-year. This year is no exception, with the company continuing to go above and beyond to devise and implement the very best industry practice, a prime example being the recent introduction of a new Professional Driver Recognition Scheme.
Considerate Constructors Scheme Executive Chairman Isabel Martinson said: “On behalf of the Scheme, I would like to congratulate all of this year’s National Company and Supplier award winners, with special congratulations to the 2018 Most Considerate Companies and 2018 Most Considerate Supplier.
“Winning an award is an immense achievement and one which is highly regarded throughout the industry. Each award winner should be hugely proud of their achievements in helping to raise the standards of considerate construction across the industry.”

About the Considerate Constructors Scheme
The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a not-for-profit, independent organisation founded in 1997 by the construction industry to improve its image.
Construction sites, companies and suppliers voluntarily register with the Scheme and agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice. The Code commits those registered with the Scheme to care about appearance, respect the community, protect the environment, secure everyone’s safety and value their workforce.
The Scheme monitors any area of construction activity that may have a direct or indirect impact on the image of the industry as a whole.
Companies registered with the Scheme voluntarily agree to abide by its Code of Considerate Practice. Any company of any size can register, including trade contractors and those who work within the supply chain. Companies with a turnover of more than £3.5m and managing sites with a duration of over six weeks need to register separately under the Scheme’s Site Registration. Suppliers of goods and materials of all types and sizes, including large national suppliers, regional suppliers and specialist suppliers are able to register with the Scheme at any time.
The Scheme provides the Best Practice Hub, a comprehensive online resource showcasing best practice in the construction industry. The Best Practice Hub hosts a wealth of tips, expertise, guidance and case studies to help constructors learn from their peers and raise industry standards.
In 2018, the Scheme received the prestigious ‘Women in Construction’ Award for its national ‘Spotlight on…women’ in construction campaign.
