UK Construction Week celebrated its third and last day at the NEC in Birmingham with a record-breaking number of visitors and product launches. Here, we look at the innovation happening behind the scenes at the industry’s largest free construction trade show.
Launched at Timber Expo, the new Tyvek® e-Guard W1 is a low emissivity, reflective breather membrane with a water-tight difference. Not only does it offer all the reliable properties of a product that takes durability seriously, it also offers a very high thermal resistance value to help improve both occupier comfort and energy-saving returns on investment. An unbeatable combination of proven performance and longevity makes Tyvek® e-Guard W1 the smart choice not only for Timber Frame projects, but for most modern methods of construction.
One of the show’s biggest attractions is The Innovation Trail, which returned with a bang to showcase the latest products transforming the construction industry today. This included Texo Drone’s advanced UAV services for construction surveying – the world’s first UAV integrated survey-grade LiDAR system – while also providing daily, show stopping displays of its drones live in action at the show. Meanwhile, Solisco exhibited its innovative Solar EV-Port Systems that offer a balanced solution to power cars with renewable energy while helping to balance the grid.
Also drawing in the crowds was POD Point, the UK’s leading supplier of EV charging points for developers, wholesalers and distributers. Positioned as ‘Electrical Vehicle Charging for the Built Environment’, POD Point offers next generation EV charging points, the most advanced management system for setting pricing tariffs and tracking usage, as well as three year on-site extended warranty.
On display for the show’s duration was the Clevertouch Pro 4k interactive touchscreen, which is tantamount to having a large tablet on the wall encompassing a digital whiteboard, annotation app, browser, access to files and documents, as well as a save and email function. It produces a stunning image incorporating 955% more pixels than a data projector, which proved an unmissable display.
Designer and manufacturer of heating and hot water systems, Ecovolt exclusively launched its JouleTherm H20 Hybrid Hot Water System at the show, which turns waste heat into stored hot water through mechanical ventilation.
Unlocking the advanced technology hidden in regular mineral materials, neogem is a new brand by CEMEX that offers innovative aggregate solutions to meet specific customer needs.
From Veri Smart Heating, the EcoHeat has a ‘smart’ ability to maintain a room's temperature long after it has stopped drawing power, made possible by its dual encased heating elements. This range is perfect for older generation buildings.
ECGroundworks showcased The SOS Station, which provides a one-stop-shop to access First Aid equipment in the response to an emergency onsite. Made from recycled materials, SOS Station is environmentally-friendly and cost-effective, and its innovative multi-section design allows it to be transported to any area with ease.
SCALA2 is a fully integrated water booster pump by Grundfos, providing perfect water pressure in all taps – even with multiple taps and showers running at the same time. It packs pump, motor, tank, sensor, drive and non-return valve into one compact unit. And with its intelligent pump control, SCALA2 automatically adjusts performance to both inlet pressure and water consumption in the home.
On the topic of innovative displays, UK Construction Week also awarded its exhibitors for the best individual stands. Winners included Easy-Trim, headline sponsor of the Build Show, for its space only stand; New Foundation Counselling for its shell scheme; Bodoni for Timber Expo; AYYAPI for Surfaces & Materials Show; Solisco for Energy 2017, which sold a Tesla at the show; CEMEX for Civils, 3thermo for HVAC 2017; and Luxonic Lighting for Smart Buildings 2017.
Nathan Garnett, Event Director at Media 10, which runs the show, said: “Innovation in the industry is always a strong theme at UK Construction Week, so it’s only natural that we encourage this from our exhibitors, sponsors and programme content. Visitors to the show have been overcome with the record-breaking number of products on display, all of which have an important role to play in our industry. As the show closes, we have to say thank you to everyone who has put on such an amazing display at the NEC.”
