It’s a challenging time for the industrial and logistics sector as we navigate not just the impact of goods moving around post Brexit but also the knock-on effect of the global pandemic.

Every sphere of business in the UK has had to adapt in the last 12 months by either diversifying what they offer or examining their supply chain to fulfil market demand. This means businesses have to understand how to adapt their premises whether they are manufacturing, distributing or storing goods.

It's a challenge for building service design and one that MBA have been happy to rise to. MBA have worked in the industrial and logistics market for over five decades. This puts them in the unique position of understanding base requirements for building services solutions. A progressive and tailored approach to every project has allowed them to quickly evolve their practice to meet the changes of the market.

Sustainability in practice

The industrial and logistics sector much like others in the UK, needs to deliver spaces that are not only functional but are conceived with sustainability at the heart of the design. The importance of sustainability is becoming paramount, with targets and objectives being enhanced to meet global objectives. The MBA approach to sustainability is to embrace the inclusions of long-term measures to reduce the impact on natural resources through efficient and effective design philosophies.

MBA have the experience to develop robust strategies with the extended design team to ensure a logical and practical approach on projects that delivers results that are efficient and minimise impact on natural resources. The sustainability team at MBA benefit from having knowledge and experience in the key aspects of sustainable building design, including BREEAM, Part L/ EPC, thermal comfort, operational energy and Net Zero Carbon, meaning that you will consistently have a contact who is multi-disciplined and able to advise on both aspects of a project. This enables a robust strategy to be developed from an early stage in the design through to project completion.

MBA have also recognised the increasing requirement and interest in the WELL Certification and can provide the service of a WELL Accredited Professional to clients. The WELL Standard is an additional aspect of sustainable building design that provides performance standards which reflect best practice for building design when considering the ‘wellbeing’ of occupants.

This is an opportunity for the industrial and logistics sector to deliver the solutions needed for an evolving sector whilst using the latest technology and innovation to ensure sustainable practice.
