London 2012

The Olympic Park was at the heart of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Nine world-class sporting venues, the Olympic and Paralympic Village and media centres were set in new parklands, providing a fabulous stage for the world’s best athletes to perform.

The construction of the main venues and infrastructure of the Park was achieved in less than three years. With the project completed on time and within budget, it is seen as a showcase for the best of UK plc – great design, engineering, construction and project management.

BBC News, 23 December 2011

As 2011 draws to a close, the UK's Olympic year is nearly upon us, and excitement is mounting about London 2012.

Organisers, architects and builders have been battling against tough deadlines and tougher economic conditions to ready venues fit to host the world's largest sporting spectacle: They are nearly there.

With just over 200 days until the opening ceremony, the Olympic Park in east London is 90% complete, and due to be finished early next year.

Here are timelapse sequences showing the construction process at the Basketball Arena, the Velodrome, the Aquatics Centre, and the Olympic Stadium.
