Futurebuild 2027 confronts UK construction’s non-negotiables on sustainability

Futurebuild 2027 is back with all the ethos of Ecobuild during UK Construction Week London, 11-13 May at Excel.

The only built environment event entirely dedicated to sustainability in action is amplifying its mission as the industry gears up for a consequential year on green building performance.  Taking inspiration from its trailblazing beginnings under the Ecobuild banner, organisers are approaching the 2027 programme with renewed assertion.

“In the same way that Ecobuild was instrumental in shifting sustainable building from niche to mainstream, Futurebuild 2027 is changing shape to really support the community in pushing further forward ,” says Editorial Director, Martin Hurn.

“This year’s ‘The Future is…’ theme is deliberately open-ended as we tackle the non-negotiables the industry must collectively address to drive, deliver and demonstrate measurable progress. The agenda is centred on taking accountability and it’s being set by those not afraid to do so.”

Futurebuild 2027 is focusing on what the industry should -  rather than could - be doing. Industry bodies including the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) are already confirmed as partners and supporting in the curation of the Futurebuild Conference agenda and a series of energising new fringe events.

The knowledge programme will be given a fresh format organised around three pillars - Decarbonisation, Sustainable Materials and Zero Waste & Circularity - each with its own seminar stage.

Plus, a centrally located Connect Lounge, built entirely from reused materials, will provide a dedicated space for facilitating what Futurebuild is principally about: meeting like-minded people, enabling purposeful interactions and working together around the shared objective of a more sustainable built environment. The Connect Lounge will also host a screening of the National Emergency Briefing, setting an even more intentional tone for the 2027 event’s Ecobuild-esque draw.

“The regulation is arriving, the science is not in doubt and the time for deliberation has passed,” adds Martin Hurn.

“This year's Futurebuild will leverage its unifying capability across UK construction’s deep green community to focus squarely on what we as a sector must do. For the companies that have spent years developing credible, evidenced solutions, there has never been a more important moment to be in the room with the people who will specify them."
With the entire industry now under legal and commercial pressure to stand by ambitious commitments, Futurebuild offers exhibitors a direct route to an informed audience that expects evidence, rejects greenwash and shapes specification and strategy.

Futurebuild is the built environment’s flagship sustainability gathering. With nine distinct and specialist events taking place throughout UK Construction Week London (UKCW), Futurebuild 2027 will also provide exhibitors the benefit of strong crossover with the National Retrofit Conference & Expo, new Urban Environment and the reimagined Stone & Surfaces shows. The first ‘super event’ bringing Futurebuild together with UKCW in 2026 welcomed 20,784 attendees, with 76% coming to see the latest innovations and 46,860 leads captured across the exhibition floors.
