Awards for the industry’s shining stars

Civils Expo, part of UK Construction Week, recognises the brilliant work the industry is doing and wants to reward it by launching number of new, specialist awards at this year’s event. These include: Construction Enquirer Awards, Low Carbon Vehicles Awards, BIM Awards, Offsite Awards and WAN Awards.

WAN AWARDS:

Transport
At this year’s UK Construction Week in Birmingham several WAN Awards will be presented. The World Architecture News WAN AWARDS are a unique international architectural awards programme. A total of 22 categories are represented throughout the year across areas as diverse as Adaptive Reuse, Transport, Performing Spaces and Waterfront Architecture. The Transport in Architecture Award is one of the three awards to be presented at UK Construction Week. This category seeks to identify and reward ideas that enhance movement and access. Whether large or small, designs from across the whole transport spectrum are considered, from train stations to transit hubs, airports to seaports, and parking structures to pedestrian schemes.

Concrete in Architecture
The WAN Concrete in Architecture Award will be also presented at this year’s UK Construction Week. This is a specialist category that recognises bold, daring designs that explore the sculptural and expressive possibilities of this highly versatile material across all building types, whether a private residence or public building. Different treatments, textures and colours are all features of buildings made from this hard wearing, popular material.
Judged by some of the industry's most renowned figures, the panel of experts are committed to advancing standards within concrete construction. They'll be rewarding excellence in design, manufacturing and craftsmanship across all building types, whether a private residence or public building.

Adaptive Reuse
The third WAN Award that will be presented at UK Construction Week is the WAN Adaptive Reuse Award which celebrates and promotes the best in international Adaptive Reuse attracting entries from all over the world. It provides a global platform to showcase renovated, restored, redeveloped or recycled buildings.
In the pursuit of sustainable development and preserving the past for the next generation, many buildings are being given a new lease of life – a move that significantly reduces both waste and energy, and scales down the consumption of materials.Projects that deliver the most striking transformative effects, while remaining sympathetic to the building’s original character will always stand out from the rest in this fascinating category.
